Biden accused of following Trump’s border policies amid surge

United States President Joe Biden has made a deal with Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras to increase border security in order to prevent refugees from reaching the US border.

The leaders of Mexico and Guatemala criticised Biden for having initially sent “compassionate messages”. That encouraged refugees to try and reunite with their families only to find often brutal conditions and deplorable treatment at the US border.

Per capita the US accepts only a tiny amount of asylum seekers, and yet immigration appears to be the most talked about issue today.

What's seemingly never discussed in the mainstream media is how US foreign policy is so often the direct cause of the political instability and economic dysfunction which produces these refugee crises in Latin America.

Domestically, Republicans are being accused of fear-mongering about immigrants, while Democrats are being accused of using foreign immigration to distract from the unprecedented economic and health crises.

The right to asylum is protected in international and US law, but Biden appears to be following the same militaristic approach as his controversial predecessor, which many repeatedly called “inhumane”.
