The coronavirus pandemic has turned into a full-blown crisis in Brazil. Poverty has tripled in Brazil in 2021.
According to a recent research, about 27 million people live below the poverty line there. The jump comes after the countrys covid-19 aid program ended in 2020 and as the country sees record daily deaths from virus.
The pandemic has forced millions into unemployment, homelessness and hunger. Those living on the streets face an increased risk of catching the disease. Despite that, the government still refuses lockdown to contain the surge.
