The developer of Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine has ensured speedy recovery without severe symptoms in case of infection with COVID-19 after news broke out that the Argentine president tested positive for the contagious disease a few months after receiving the Russian jab.

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, 62, was inoculated with Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine back in January. He tweeted early Saturday that he felt “light headache” and had a temperature of 37.3 degrees, prompting him to take a quick antigen test.

His personal physician, Dr. Federico Saavedra, said later in the day that the positive finding was confirmed by a more rigorous P.C.R. test.

A few hours later, the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, which has developed Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, ensured in a statement quick recovery without severe symptoms in case of contagion.

“We are sad to hear this. Sputnik V is 91.6 percent effective against infection and 100 percent effective against severe cases. If the infection is indeed confirmed and occurs, the vaccination ensures quick recovery without severe symptoms. We wish you a quick recovery!” the Gamaleya Institute wrote on Twitter, Russia's TASS news agency reported.

The Russian vaccine itself, the first to have been developed in the world, has been the target of dismissals by Western media, which described it as hastily prepared to serve political purposes.

Now some 46 counties have authorized Sputnik V, according to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which markets the vaccine outside Russia.

The US Department of Health and Human Services said last month that it used "diplomatic relations" to force Brazil to reject authorization of the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V amid rising death toll, citing threats to US’ safety and security.

The developers of Russia’s Sputnik V censured the US officials’ efforts to undermine the vaccine as unethical, saying the moves are costing lives as Brazil, one of the worst-hit countries by the pandemic, was contending with COVID-19.
