Did Scottish first minister lie to parliament?

Members of a Scottish Parliamentary Committee have accused First Minister Nicola Sturgeon of unknowingly misleading the legislative body over her dealings with her predecessor, Alex Salmond.

This, at a time when the former first minister was under investigation over allegations of sexual harassment. That, they say, was a breach of the ministerial code.

Sturgeon’s supporters say the outcome of the Hamilton inquiry which came after weeks of mounting pressure on Sturgeon should end the calls for her to resign.

Her critics disagree. They allege the inquiry didn’t look at further potential breaches of the ministerial code, and that Sturgeon’s government badly let down women at the heart of it all.

The question on the minds of many now is what impact the Salmond saga will have on Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish National party’s chances of winning May’s parliamentary elections and her plans to hold a second referendum on independence from the rest of the UK.
