Iran installs new system to sell crude in Sea of Oman

After the administration of former US president Donald Trump re-imposed sanctions on Iran and threatened to punish countries purchasing Iranian oil, the Islamic Republic kickstarted a project to transfer its crude to a place far from the Persian Gulf.
With the installation of this offshore structure at a distance of approximately six kilometers from Makran coast, the early phase of the project will go operational.
Jask terminal is under construction by Pars Oil and Gas Company on 60 hectares of land and with nearly €260 million of investment. The SPM system and its accessories, including floating and submersible hoses, weigh nearly 800 tons. It will be installed and fixed to the seafloor at a depth of 48 meters.
The 1000 kilometers pipeline from Bushehr will soon be linked to Jask terminal and then via the underwater pipes it will reach the SPM to load tankers with crude. Jask will soon become Iran’s second largest oil export terminal after the Kharg Island terminal.
The Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf is Iran’s main terminal to export crude oil. To reach Kharg, tankers must pass through the Strait of Hormuz. With the launch of this project, the country’s oil exports will not be linked to the Strait of Hormuz and tankers can load over here in the Sea of Oman.
