Iran’s foreign minister meets Turkish counterpart

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, paid a visit to the Turkish city of Istanbul where he met his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu. The meeting took place in the presence of the head of Turkey’s National Intelligence organization Hakan Fidan and diplomats from both sides.
The two sides discussed bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and international developments especially the situation in Syria and the latest developments in Iraq as well as fight against terrorism in the region.
The Turkish minister informed his Iranian counterpart of an upcoming trilateral meeting that Turkey intends to hold which will include Russian and Qatari officials to further discuss the Syrian crisis and find a peaceful solution. For Turkey, Iran is an important player when it comes to finding a solution to the Syrian conflict.
Joint talks also addressed the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and Washington’s unilateral sanctions on Tehran. Observers say although the meeting was short, it was very important as it once again showed the two neighbors are after expanding cooperation and the two have similar regional and international concerns.
