Myanmar protests turn deadly

Myanmar had been ruled by oppressive military government from 1962 to 2011. However, since 2011, a democratic transition began and the country had its first democratic election in 2015.

The military once again took power in the South East Asian country and detained the de facto leader Aung San Suu Chi and other civilian leaders in a coup on February 1.

That lead to anti-coup protests and military junta has been carrying out a bloody crackdown on demonstrators.
