U.S. war on terror

On September 11, 2001 two hijacked airplanes were flown into the twin world trade center buildings, killing almost 3,000 people. Soon after, then president George W. Bush announced that time has come for the world to come together and fight a war against all those who seek to export terror. That announcement gave birth to the first war of the 21st century, the so called “war on terror”. 20 years after the invasion of Afghanistan by the U.S.-led forces the U.S. “counterterrorism” operations have only expanded.
