Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has helped Arsenal edge past Benfica 3-2 in the first leg, and 4-3 on aggregate, to move the Gunners into the last 16.

In a home leg played in Greece because of Covid-19 restrictions in England, Aubameyang opened the scoring 21 minutes into the match, lifting the ball over the keeper, after collecting a precise pass by Bukayo Saka.

But, the guest leveled the score just before the break, as Diogo Goncalves pierced a superb free kick into the top left corner.

The Gunners conceded another in the 61st minute, as Rafa Silva weaved his way past several defenders, and fired home the second, after a one-on-one with the keeper, to make it 3-2 on aggregate for Benfica.

Arsenal were back in contention just six minutes later, after Kieran Tierney sent an unstoppable shot into the bottom right corner, leaving the keeper helpless.

Finally, Aubameyang headed the winner low inside the left post, after a great cross again by Bukayo Saka, who doubled his assists in Aubameyang’s brace. The victory made it 4-3 on aggregate for Arsenal, and granted their ticket to the last16.
