EU ignores UN sanctions report on Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has condemned the ‘cruelty of sanctions’ imposed by Western powers on his country, and has called on the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States to follow the recommendations issued by a top UN human rights expert following her recent visit to Venezuela.
On Monday, the European Union extended unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela and added 19 Venezuelan state officials to its sanctions list for their participation in Venezuela’s parliamentary elections on December 6, 2020, in defiance of a recent report published by a top United Nations expert urging the block to lift sanctions against the oil-reach nation.
