Pence declines invitation to conservative conference where Trump will speak
Former US Vice President Mike Pence has declined an invitation to a conservative conference, in which former President Donald Trump is a scheduled to speak.
According to multiple reports on Sunday, the Republican politician would not attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) next week.
Ties between Trump and Pence soured after the latter refused to acknowledge claims of a “stolen election” and took part in the process of certifying the electoral college victory of now-President Joe Biden in US Congress.
As Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to put an end to vote counting on January 6, they shouted “Hang Mike Pence.”
At some point, Pence came very close to the angry protesters as everyone in the Congress building were awaiting Trump’s deployment of the National Guard.
Trump party?
CPAC will kick off on Thursday in Orlando, Fla. and Trump is expected to give a closing speech on Sunday.
This round of the annual conference will be held amid a widening split within the GOP as the party’s members struggle to find out whether to move past Trump or to stick with him in the future.

Top Republicans in the Senate, including Mitch McConnell, have called for holding Trump accountable over the role he played in the deadly breach of the Capitol by his supporters.
There are also those Republicans who have thrown their full support behind the billionaire businessman.

The Suffolk University-USA Today poll found that 46 percent of Republicans would abandon the GOP and join the Trump party.
