French parliament votes law on separatism

After months of discussion and some rough debates, members of the French parliament have voted a new law, officially called the "law on Principles of the Republic." French authorities say they want to strengthen the respect of Equality, Fraternity and Liberty. But the opposition denounces the law on "separatism." They sound the alarm on the stigmatization of the Muslim community.

French Interior Minister Darmanin already said that mosques will be closely monitored. Law experts say that this text can be interpreted in different ways, which could lead to arbitrary decisions, like the closure of watchdog associations defending the rights of Muslims.
