Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev has advanced to the Australian Open semifinals after defeating Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 3 sets to 1.

Dimitrov looked sharp in the opening set, taking it 6-4. But the motivated Russian came from behind and managed to take the 2nd set 6-4.

Karatsev continued his good performance, and grabbed the next two sets 6-1 and 6-2 to wrap up the match after 2 hours and 32 minutes.

With the victory, the 27-year-old Russian made history, as he became the first man in the Open Era to reach the semi-finals on his Grand Slam debut.

Karatsev will next meet either world number one Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev in the semis.
