Sudan has announced a major cabinet reshuffle bringing in 25 new ministers. The reshuffle comes amid public protests calling for immediate economic reforms.

In a press conference, Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok announced a major cabinet reshuffle, adding that the new cabinet will focus on economic reforms, peace-building, a balanced foreign policy, restructuring of civilian and military entities, and justice for the victims of civil wars in the country.

The reshuffle is part of the government’s larger plan to push through reforms and get foreign financing to overcome an ongoing economic crisis. It follows a peace deal signed in October with some rebel groups. Fighting in Darfur has left at least 300,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced since 2003.
