The majority of lawmakers at Majlis - Iran’s Parliament - have strongly condemned the European Parliament’s recent resolution that censured Iran under the guise of protecting human rights, and threatened to take reciprocal action.

As many as 225 parliamentarians released a statement on Sunday, three days after the EP ratified the sanctions resolution targeting a number of Iranian officials, whom the European legislature accused of violating human rights.

“The European Parliament, in a hostile and ludicrous move, has issued a sanctions resolution against officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the pretext of human rights violations. We, as representatives of the brave and proud nation of Iran, condemn this act by the European Parliament,” the statement read.

In the resolution, the European body criticized Iran’s recent execution of Rouhollah Zam, a recognized Western-affiliated anti-Iran propagandist, who used to engage in extensive subversive measures against the Islamic establishment and the Iranian nation.

The Iranian legislators blasted the resolution as a clear instance of interference in the Islamic Republic’s internal affairs and a means of throwing support behind those who target the country on behalf of the West.

They also drew attention to how the EU refrained from condemning the assassination of a senior Iranian nuclear scientist in late November. Even though the Israeli officials have in the past acknowledged their role in the assassination of Iranian figures, the European entities have constantly kept mum on such terrorist acts “either due to their subservience to or their fear of the Zionist regime.”

The lawmakers, meanwhile, pointed to a long list of stark human rights violations committed by Europe -- the very continent that lays claim to defending universal principles.

They cited Europe’s support for other anti-Iranian groups and elements, from the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) cult, which is responsible for killing about 17,000 Iranian people and officials throughout its dark history, to other subversive outfits and separatist groups such as al-Ahwaziyah, whose members roam freely about the EU.

“We request that the Iranian administration provide Majlis with a list of the European officials, who have committed an inhumane crime against the Iranian nation by enforcing oppressive sanctions, especially in the area of medicine, and also those European officials, who have supported [anti-Iran] terrorist and separatist groups such as the MKO,” the statement urged.

Elsewhere, the lawmakers referred to Europe’s refusal to supply Iran with life-saving medicine for children suffering from the rare epidermolysis bullosa or EB skin condition, in compliance with the United States sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Also, the MPs denounced Europe for supporting Iraq’s former dictator Saddam Hussein who used chemical attacks against Iran in the 1980s, as well as their support for the terrorist groups and regional states that have been behind endless killings and crimes in Iraq, Syria and Yemen for years.

Such criminal behavior will remain in history and in the memory of regional peoples, the statement read, adding, “The European officials, who have ordered and perpetrated these atrocities, should face trial.”
