UEFA Champions League: Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 have been dashed, after suffering a surprise 2-nil defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in Group B, away from home.

After a goalless 1st half, Shakhtar broke the deadlock when DentinYo tapped the ball home on Raphael Varane’s error in the 57th minute.

Manor Solomon then wrapped up the hosts’ victory over Los Blancos 8 minutes from time with a powerful shot to complete his solo run. With the result, the 13-time European Champions dropped to 3rd in Group B, and their hopes in reaching the knockout stages are out of their hands, heading into the final round of matches. They will visit Borussia Monchengladbach on the 9th of December at home.

Meanwhile in Group D, Liverpool have advanced to the Champions League knockout stage, after edging past Dutch Champions Ajax 1-nil at Anfield.

Liverpool returned to winning ways, following their poor performance last week as they suffered a shocking home defeat against Atalanta in the event. The Merseyside Reds scored the winner in the 58th minute when Curtis Jones was in the right place at the right time to tap into an empty net.

Jurgen Klopp's men now sit at the top of table with 12 points, and they will next meet bottom-side Midtjylland.

Staying with the top European tournament, Atletico Madrid's hopes of qualifying from Group-A have gone down to the final matchday, as they were held to a 1-all draw by Bayern Munich at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Hosts took a 1-nil lead after Portugal Striker Joao Felix scored from close range in the 26th minute. However, defending champions Bayern Munich, who had already sealed a spot in the next round of the event, got the equalizer when Thomas Muller converted form the spot with 4 minutes remaining. Atletico must now avoid defeat against Salzburg next week to join the Bavarians in the last 16.
