7 killed after landslide in Colombia, 15 missing

This grab from a video shows heavy machinery cleaning up earth after a landslide that killed seven people in Colombia.

A landslide on a hill in Colombia struck a bar, killing seven people and injuring another 13, according to local media.

The landslide struck the bar nestled between a hill and a highway in the early hours of Monday morning in Valdivia, Antioquia Department.

In addition to those already confirmed as dead or injured, local media report some 15 other people may be missing.

According to local authorities, the bar was operating illegally after midnight when the landslide occurred.

Landslides are common in mountainous Colombia, especially during the rainy season and in areas where precarious informal housing and narrow roadways are constructed on deforested Andean hillsides.
