US battleground states too close to call, Biden leading electoral votes
The US presidential race appears headed for a photo finish between President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden, with the race too close to call in several key battleground states.
Counting is still underway in states where Trump leads, including Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and North Carolina, and the vote tally needed to determine a winner may not be known for several days, especially after state officials in North Carolina and Pennsylvania announced that the final results will not be announced tonight.
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign told the reporters in a news conference on Wednesday that the president is in a “very, very, very good position” to win the election.
So far, Trump has won Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wyoming, Ohio, Florida, Texas and Iowa.
On the other hand, the Associated Press declared Biden the winner in Arizona, giving him a breathing room as votes are counted in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the former “blue wall” states that will likely determine the outcome of this year's election.
Biden has emerged victorious in California, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Hawaii, Minnesota and Washington.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden each need 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.
Biden leads the incumbent by 238 votes to 213 in the electoral college battle. Still, uncertainty looms over when the results will be known considering the record influx of mail-in ballots.
