Enemy wants Iranians to submit to US will: Top general

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri says the enemy intends to pressure the Islamic Republic into negotiations with a foregone conclusion in order to make the Iranian nation submit to what the White House desires.

Addressing an official ceremony in Tehran on Monday, the top general referred to sanctions unilaterally imposed on Iran by the US after Washington left the landmark nuclear treaty of 2015, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Although Iran abided by all its commitments, Americans quit the JCPOA and re-imposed sanctions and intensified pressure on the Iranian nation.”

“The enemy’s goal is to make the Iranian nation submit to the will of the United States” through arms embargo and economic, political as well as security pressure.

General Baqeri also stated that Iran’s adversaries want to coerce it into talks whose result is clear beforehand: a submissive Iranian nation. “This is an objective, which is by no means in line with the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.”

Rouhani: End of Iran arms ban triumph of logic over US bullying

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani hails the lifting of the UN arms embargo on the Islamic Republic as the victory of the logic of law and truth over US bullying.

History has shown, the Iranian commander said, that the Islamic Republic has come to terms with the international community regarding its nuclear program by accepting its commitments and agreeing to scale back some of its nuclear measures. However, the “terrorist and criminal USA has not stopped violating the pact.”

General Baqeri underlined that the Islamic Republic waited a full year but the enemy did not fulfill its promise, therefore, Iran adopted an active resistance approach and strategy last year.

“There have been significant achievements at the strategic level despite extensive pressure on Iran.”

“The Iranian nation did not give up. Reliance on crude oil sales and other crude sales has declined and the nation’s self-sufficiency has been promoted while the threat has been turned into an opportunity for Iran’s self-reliance and glory.”

US President Donald Trump, a hawkish critic of the JCPOA, unilaterally withdrew Washington from the agreement in May 2018, and unleashed the “toughest ever” sanctions against the Islamic Republic in defiance of global criticism.

Following its much-criticized exit, Washington has been attempting to prevent the remaining signatories from abiding by their commitments.

Germany reiterates full commitment to Iran nuclear deal, regrets US withdrawal

Germany says it remains full committed to the JCPOA, denouncing the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal as regrettable.

Iran remained fully compliant with the JCPOA for an entire year, waiting for the co-signatories to fulfill their end of the bargain by offsetting the impacts of American bans on the Iranian economy.

But as the European parties failed to do so, the Islamic Republic moved in May 2019 to suspend its commitments under Articles 26 and 36 of the deal covering Tehran’s legal rights.

Iran took five steps in scaling back its obligations, among them abandoning operational limitations on its nuclear industry, including with regard to the capacity and level of uranium enrichment.

All those measures were adopted after informing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) beforehand, with the agency's inspectors present on the ground in Iran.
