French Open: Nadal tops Sinner, reaches semifinals

Over tennis news, Rafael Nadal has taken a step closer towards his bidding to clinch a 13th French Open Title, after defeating Jannik Sinner in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The Italian youngster showed no fear against the King of Clay as he staged a good performance in the opener, but Nadal used his experience to finish it 7-6. The 19-time Grand Slam Winner faced stiff resistance from Sinner, however, the Spaniard once again succeeded to take the next set 6-4.

Nadal, who found his rhythm, showed no mercy and won the 3rd set 6-1 to wrap up the match after 2 hours and 12 minutes. The world number 2 will meet Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Schwartzman upset US Open champion Dominic Teem in a 5-set marathon to reach the Roland Garros Semi-finals.

Schwartzman needed a little more than 5 hours to overcome his Austrian rival with a score-line of 7-6, 5-7, 6-7, 7-6 and 6-2. The Argentinean hit 47 winners and converted 10 of 16 breakpoints on his way to a first-ever semi-final spot at a major.
