Nations League: France 4-2 Croatia

The 2018 world cup final has stirred as France once again defeated Croatia 4-2 but this time in Group A3 match of the Nations League in Paris.

Croatia opened the scoring after Dejan Lovren put the ball home with low shot 17 minutes into the match. But Barcelona’s striker Antoine Griezmann leveled the match for the host with a volley from close range in the 43rd minute.

Croatia’s keeper, Livakovic scored an unfortunate own goal after Anthony Martial tucked the ball in off the post to give France 2-1 lead before the break. However, Josip Brekalo restored the parity for the visitors from close range following his solo effort in the 55th minute.

Only 10 minutes later, Les Blues got the upper hand once again when Dayot Upamecano scored with a powerful header.

Finally, Chelsea’s striker Olivier Giroud came off the bench to add a fourth for France from the spot in the 77th minute. The victory means Didier Deschamps' men are level with Portugal on 6 points at the top of the group but behind on goal difference. The two sides will meet in Paris in the next round of group matches in October.

Meanwhile, in the same group, Portugal beat Sweden 2-nil in Stockholm. Portugal’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo gave his team a 1-nil lead with a brilliant free kick from outside the box in the dying moments of the 1st half.

Ronaldo scored his brace with a clinical finish from the edge of the box in the 72nd minute to register his 101st international goals. However, the Juventus striker now is within 8 goals of the world-record 109 that Iran's Ali Daei managed during his playing career.
