Thousands of miles away from the city of Karbala, mourners of Imam Hussein flocked in their tens of thousands to the mausoleum of Pakistan’s founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah to pay tribute to Prophet Muhammad's grandson Imam Hussein (PBUH) who sacrificed his life and household along with 72 companions in the epic but unequal battle of Karbala.

Despite flooding after record torrential rains in Karachi, thousands of people converged here to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.

Reciting eulogies in remembrance of the hardships of Prophet's households, these mourners while beating their chests, crossed miles on foot to refresh the memories of that tragedy and a protest against tyrants of the time.

Following in Imam Hussein’s footsteps, the central congregation in Karachi showed solidarity with the oppressed Muslims of Kashmir, Palestine, Myanmar and Yemen and demanded a united stance from Muslim countries. The participants also strongly condemned the UAE and Israel’s recent deal.

Pakistanis traditionally cook and distribute food and beverages called Nazar-e-Imam Hussain among people in and out of mourning ceremonies. Many donate blood in Ashura processions to help others in need.
