Excavators on Friday sifted through debris in Beirut’s port area – the site of the biggest blast in the Lebanese capital’s history.
The deadly blast from a warehouse housing highly-explosive material ripped through the Lebanese capital on Tuesday (August 4), killing at least 154 people, injuring 5,000 and leaving more than a quarter of a million people homeless as buildings were flattened and windows smashed throughout the city.
Burnt cars and piles of grain were seen amongst the port's debris. The blast destroyed Lebanon's only port-based grains silo and disabled the port, the main entry point for food imports.
