India’s youth face jobless future as pandemic bites

India announced a nationwide lockdown in March.
The country is now staring at acute job crises. The youth are the hardest hit with no options available, therefore, they are left with no income.
Now the youth are flooding the online platform to look for options, if any. Young people who have acquired higher education are particularly finding it hard to get the one, something that threatens their future course.
In India, which is already experiencing a job crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is making the issue even worse. Several sectors, particularly tourism and auto, are badly hit.
Based on the centre for monitoring the Indian economy, a think tank, about 41 percent of people in the age group of 15-29 were out of work in May and about 27 million people between the ages of 20 and 30 lost their jobs in April. The think tank has said the pandemic has worsened the situation.
According to the International Labour Organization, the COVID-19 pandemic will have significant economic fallout leading to job crises across the globe with young people being the worst affected for decades to come.
In India, an estimated 1.3 million people join the job market each month but the shrinking job sector means a looming unemployment crisis, putting the world’s largest youth population at an enormous risk. Even before the pandemic, India was one of the toughest places to be a young job seeker.
India has not announced any specific measures for the jobless youth, but the country has injected some 5.3 billion dollars into its employment scheme as part of a COVID-19 stimulus package aimed at providing income for millions of jobless.
Some say, given the size of the population, more needs to be done.
