US shooting: Two dead, 8 injured in South Carolina club

Two people have been reported killed and eight others injured early Sunday, June 5, during a nightclub shooting in Greenville, South Carolina, according to the local sheriff's office.

The US shooting occurred around 2 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) at the Lavish Lounge, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of the state capital Columbia, the local NBC news station said.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis said the shooting may have been gang related, the station said. The injured were taken to area hospitals.

Nightclubs are required to remain closed in South Carolina because of COVID-19 under an executive order by Governor Henry McMaster.
