Mentors and leaders

This episode is a brief section of Dr. Altaf Husain’s speech at the Muslim American Society and the Islamic Circle of North America 18th Annual Convention in Chicago.

We often find ourselves idealising our mentors and leaders. This idealisation can be detrimental when we discover that despite their talents, these role models are ordinary people with their own faults.

The community has been shocked and shaken by the moral and political failings of some community icons who used to be mentors and influencers for thousands of community members, especially the younger generation.

Dr. Altaf Husain explores how to align our perception of our leaders appropriately and understanding that all humans are fallible and subject to shortcomings. He also encourages the attendees to support their local mentors and Imams, who have dedicated most of their life to Islam.
