The head of the Christopher Columbus statue in Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park in Boston, Massachusetts, was removed overnight.

In 2015, it was doused in red paint with the words "Black Lives Matter."

The mayor of Boston has said the statue will now be removed and put in storage in light of recent anti-racism protests that have swept the country after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25.
