Jared Kushner in damage control over questioning 2020 vote

US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law has come under pressure over suggesting that the 2020 presidential election might be canceled.

In an interview with Time magazine on Tuesday, White House adviser Jared Kushner imagined various scenarios that could pan out amid the coronavirus pandemic with the 2020 presidential election planned for November, but had to walk back the comments Wednesday.

”That's too far in the future to tell," Kushner said. “Nothing that I'm aware of now, but again, our focus right now is just on getting the country.”

“It’s not my decision to make, so I'm not sure I can commit one way or the other. But right now, that's the plan and again, hopefully, by the time we get to September, October, November, we've done enough work with testing and with all the different things we're trying to do to prevent a future outbreak of the magnitude that would make us shut down again. I really believe that once America opens up, it'll be very hard for America to ever lock down again."

The White House adviser had to walk back his comments later.

“I have not been involved in, nor am I aware of any discussions about trying to change the date of the presidential election,” he said.

Trump’s approval rating dips amid mounting coronavirus death toll

US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 41 percent, a poll shows.

Kushner in April described the Trump administration‘s response to the pandemic as a “success story. “

According to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday, only 41 percent of US citizens are approving Trump's performance over the past years, 4 points down from a similar poll in mid-April.

This while former Vice President Joe Biden is reportedly leading in polls ahead of facing Trump in the 2020 election.
