Sheep missing for seven years fleeced for charity

A sheep missing for more than seven years has helped raise more than $7,700 for refugees, after a charity competition was held for people to guess the weight of her wool.

Prickles was shorn for the first time in seven years, producing 13.6 kilograms of fleece, far shorter than the 41 kg record created by another Australian sheep in 2019.

The sheep had escaped from the farm in Tasmania after a bushfire destroyed 50 km (31 miles) of fencing, according to her owner, Alice Bennett. It took five adults to wrestle her into a pickup truck after she was first found in April.

Prickles' wool will be made into items that will be auctioned off for the UNHCR refugee agency.
