US President Donald Trump says he thinks Senator Bernie Sanders is “a communist” because he thinks of communism when he thinks of Sanders!

He made the comments in an interview aired prior to Super Bowl LIV on Fox News.

"I think he’s a communist. I mean, you know, look, I think of communism when I think of Bernie," said the US president after being asked to make a quick statement about other 2020 presidential candidates.

"Now you could say socialist, but didn’t he get married in Moscow?”

Trump has been trying to widen the rift in the Democratic field, in part by expressing a mild support for Sanders in his feud with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"I think of Bernie sort of as a socialist but far beyond a socialist.” Trump said. “At least he’s true to what he believes."

Impeach Biden

The Vermont independent lawmaker, who is running as a Democrat, is facing former Vice President Joe Biden, whom the president had tried to harm in a manner that led to his impeachment.

While Trump’s acquittal is nearing in the Republican-held Senate, a GOP senator has talked of impeaching Biden if he can beat Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

“I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened,” Iowa Republican Senator Joni Ernst said in an interview with Bloomberg. “Joe Biden should be very careful what he’s asking for because, you know, we can have a situation where if it should ever be President Biden, that immediately, people, right the day after he would be elected would be saying, ‘Well, we’re going to impeach him.’”

Biden said last week that Ernst had “spilled the beans” about Republicans’ intentions, asserting that, “You can ruin Donald Trump’s night by caucusing with me and ruin Joni Ernst’s night as well.”
