US Muslim congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has called for unity to prevent US President Donald Trump from getting reelected in the 2020 presidential election.

The Michigan Democrat made the comment Saturday after she was seen booing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at a campaign event for Senator Bernie Sanders.

The progressive lawmaker released a statement voicing support for the “movement” created by the Vermont senator’s campaign.

“I am so incredibly in love with the movement that our campaign of #NotMeUs has created. This makes me protective over it and frustrated by attempts to dismiss the strength and diversity of our movement,” Tlaib said. “However, I know what is at stake if we don't unify over one candidate to beat Trump and I intend to do everything possible to ensure that Trump does not win in 2020… In this instance, I allowed my disappointment with Secretary Clinton's latest comments about Senator Sanders and his supporters get the best of me.”

The 2016 feud between Clinton and Sanders revived recently when she criticized Sanders saying, “nobody likes him.”

Tlaib further stated that ,"You all, my sisters-in-service on stage, and our movement deserve better.”

She added that she "will continue to strive to come from a place of love and not react in the same way of those who are against what we are building in this country."

"This is about building a just and equitable future for my two boys, children across the country, and future generations," said the Michigan lawmaker.

Trump took the chance to intervene in the Clinton-Sanders feud, by voicing a mild support for Sanders and taking a jab at his 2016 nemesis.

"When Hillary says nobody likes him, nobody likes her. That’s why she lost, nobody liked her," the US president said.
