Finally back home and humbly recounting the his bitter experience of spending more than a year behind bars in the US without a charge or trial, world-renowned stem cell researcher, Professor Masoud Soleimani, has no doubt that scientific advancements in Iran is what infuriates the US and the main reason for his illegal detention.

The Professor also shared his secret to being resilient during the tough times in prison. However, the ordeal he went through is now taking its toll. Only a week after he arrived, the professor had to cancel a press conference on Sunday, because he was rushed to hospital for a cardiac checkup.

Soleimani who works in stem cell research, hematology and regenerative medicine was on a sabbatical when he was arrested by US authorities upon arrival in Chicago a year ago and transferred to a prison in Atlanta, Georgia.

He was released by the US as part of a prisoner swap a week ago. Professor Soleimani himself says that he is now more adamant than ever before to pave the way for scientific advancements in Iran.

Despite the fact that the professor was not in his best physical condition, he made it a priority to come to the university and let his students know that he will be resuming classes and research projects very soon.
