Germany have thrashed Northern Ireland in the Euro 2020 qualifiers dead-rubber at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt.

The visitors took a surprise early lead when Michael Smith put the ball home with an unstoppable shot form the edge of the box, 7 minutes into the match. But the Irish side’s lead was short lived as Serge Gnabry leveled the match for the Germans with a fine turn and shot, in the 19th minute. Leon Goretzka then tapped the ball home from close range to make it 2-1 for the hosts before the break.Germany showed no mercy in the 2nd half as Gnabry scored with a low shot finish from inside the box in the 47th minute. 

Gnabry scored a hat-trick with his solo effort to take his tally to an impressive "13 goals in 13 internationals" on the hour mark. Then it was Goretzka's turn to score his 2nd with a powerful shot from 20 meters, in the 73rd minute.

Finally. Julian Brandt completed the rout with a precise shot in stoppage time as the Germans finished at the top of Group C with 21 points, 2 ahead of 2nd-placed the Netherlands.
