U23 World Championships: Iran win Greco-Roman title

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have claimed the title at the 2019, U23 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. 

Team Iran who had already bagged two gold medals at the tournament, tallied one more gold and three bronze medals to come out on top with 122 points, edging out second-placed Georgia with 121 points and third-placed Russia with 118 in the title race.

On the last day of the event in Budapest, Iran’s 72 KG Greco-Roman champion Mohammadreza Geraee defeated opponents from Turkey, Russia, Georgia and Ukraine on his way to the final match, where he claimed a 7-nothing victory against Sanan Suleymanov of Azerbaijan to secure the gold medal for Iran.

That’s while, in the 60, 67 and 97 kg categories, Mehdi Mohsennejad, Sajjad Imentalab and  Mohammad Hadi Saravi capitalized on their second chances in the repechage round to grab three vital bronze medals which ensured Iran’s championship.
