Gabbard calls on Clinton to ‘face her directly’ in 2020 Democratic primary

Tulsi Gabbard (right) on Saturday called on Hillary Clinton to "face her directly" in the 2020 Democratic primary.

US Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard has called on Hillary Clinton to "face her directly" in the 2020 Democratic primary.

"Hillary Clinton accused Tulsi Gabbard — a combat veteran, soldier and Major in the Army National Guard — of being 'groomed' to be a 'Russian asset,'" reads a fundraising email sent by Gabbard's campaign on Saturday.

"Tulsi fights back and demands Hillary join the race and face her directly,” the message adds.

Gabbard in the email said that Clinton "finally came out from behind the curtain yesterday, accusing me of being a Russian asset," while urging supporters to contribute $25 to her campaign.

"If this a fight she wants to have, one that has implications for all of us and the future of our democracy, then I challenge her to come out from behind her proxies and powerful allies in the corporate media, and face me directly," Gabbard stated.

Former US secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Clinton on Friday suggested the Russians were “grooming” Gabbard to give up her Democratic primary bid and run for president as a third-party candidate and champion their interests.

In response, Gabbard blasted Clinton, calling her the “embodiment of corruption” and “the queen of warmongers.”

In a series of tweets, Gabbard called Clinton the "personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long.”

“Great! Thank you @HillaryClinton. You, the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, have finally come out from behind the curtain,” she added.

A former adviser to the Clinton family has claimed that Clinton, who lost the 2016 race for the White House to Republican Donald Trump, is once again considering running for president in 2020.

Clinton, a former first lady, has said that she still regrets losing the 2016 presidential face-off with Trump. She has said that even though she doesn't want to run again for the White House, "I'd like to be president."

"Do you want to run again?" she was asked. "No," the 71-year-old replied quickly, but then added, "I’d like to be president."

Meanwhile, Trump has invited “loser” Clinton to try her luck again in 2020.
