Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya has become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours in an unofficial event in Vienna.

The Olympic marathon champion covered the 42.2 kilometer route around Vienna's Prater park in one hour, 59 minutes, and 40 seconds.

However, the I Double AF has announced that his new record would not be recognized as the official marathon world record because it was not an open competition.

Kipchoge himself holds the official world record with a time of two hours, one minute, and 39 seconds, which was set back in 2018 in Berlin.
