Farmers demanding greater recognition drive tractors to Hague in Netherlands

Dutch farmers drove their tractors to The Hague on Tuesday, demanding a greater recognition of their industry.

The demonstration was triggered by a report that calls on the government to reduce the country's livestock farming in a bid to cut nitrogen emissions.

"There are 2,000, over 2,000 tractors here in the neighborhood. Only the mayor of The Hague wouldn't let them in. The mayor would only let 75 tractors in, but farmers are clever, so they took other ways that the mayor didn't think of," one of the protesters said.

The Dutch Motorists Association (ANWB) said the tractors caused some 1,136 kilometers (700 miles) of traffic jams.
