US-China military rivalry
This week, the United States has conducted major naval military exercises of the coast of the state of Virginia.
28 US vessels have participated in the exercises which stimulated deploying US army and Marine Corps in addition to military hardware to a major conflict overseas. Reports suggest the war games are possibly aimed at China. It comes as American and Japanese forces carried out a joint drill this week using land to ship missiles to attack enemy ships.
Local media also cited Chinas increasing maritime activities for the exercises.This followed US naval exercises earlier this month with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations also known as ASEAN. A number of these countries have maritime territorial disputes with Beijing in the South China Sea.
