A group of striking mine workers clashed violently with police outside Peru's ministry of labor in Lima on Thursday.
The mine workers swung heavy wooden poles at police in riot gear who responded by firing tear gas and pushing back against the protesters.
According to local media, a number of mine workers forced their way through the ministry's security barrier and entered the building where they continued their protest.
Peru is the second-largest producer of copper in the world and its mining industry makes up 60% of its exports.
