EU urges Iran to stay in JCPOA despite US pressure

The European Union has expressed concern over Iran’s decision to further cut its commitments under the 2015 nuclear accord. Tehran says the EU has failed to abide by the terms of the accord following the US withdrawal from the JCPOA 16 months ago.

For the third time since May, Tehran has moved to somewhat edge away from the historic Iran nuclear agreement signed by world powers in 2015. On Friday, the Islamic Republic accelerated nuclear research and development. The main reason, Iran claims, is because the EU is failing to abide by the commitments it signed up to as part of the deal.

But Tehran insists the EU has so far failed to stand up to Donald Trump's efforts to totally destroy Iran's economy. Key EU leaders are calling on the Islamic Republic to reverse all activities that are inconsistent with the Iran nuclear deal, which is officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA. French President Emmanuel Macron seems to be leading the charge to try and and ensure Trump's economic war on Iran fails, but so far Macron has failed himself in this regard. We have been speaking to members of the public about Trump's efforts to rip apart the Iran nuclear deal.

The man poised to be the next British Prime Minister, Jeremy Corbyn, has tweeted 'The UK should reject the dangerous Trump-Netanyahu coalition to end the Iran nuclear deal.' Plenty of experts agree Israel and Saudi Arabia are behind what Iran calls Washington's economic terrorism.

According to many analysts, Iran has demonstrated it is unwilling to remain in the JCPOA at all costs. Therefore, they say, the EU is clearly running out of time to save this landmark agreement.
