This is his first address to the nation since India revoked the special status of disputed Kashmir region on August 5.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has outlined his government’s strategy to deal with the worsening situation. But he also used his address to caution the world for a potential nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India.

He then went on to add that irrespective of what the world does, Pakistan is not going to abandon the people of Kashmir.

Kashmir remains under lockdown for over three weeks. But despite restrictions, protests are taking place daily in the valley against the Indian rule.

The worsening situation in Kashmir has also deepened tensions between Pakistan and India. Despite Pakistan’s strong protest, India insists Kashmir is its internal matter.

The dispute over the scenic Himalayan region dates back to 1947 partition of subcontinent. Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in full but rule only parts of it. The two countries have in the past fought wars over the disputed territory.

The longstanding Kashmir dispute is once again in the spotlight after India revoked its special status. With Pakistan and India are not talking to each other at the moment, there is a fear that tensions may translate into some serious conflict.
