The White House has denied US President Donald Trump’s suggestion that his wife has met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Speaking of his close ties with Kim, Trump made the suggestion during a closing news conference at the annual G-7 summit Monday.

“Kim Jong Un, who I've gotten to know extremely well, the first lady has gotten to know Kim Jong Un and I think she would agree with me, he is a man with a country that has tremendous potential,” said the American president.

What Trump ‘feels’

Melania Trump looked shortly puzzled after Trump made the remark.

The White House had to clarify later that the North Korean leader has not met with the president’s wife.

“President Trump confides in his wife on many issues including the detailed elements of his strong relationship with Chairman Kim,” said press secretary Stephanie Grisham. “And while the First Lady hasn’t met him, the president feels like she’s gotten to know him too.”

Trump has been looking forward for an agreement with Pyongyang, yet to no avail so far.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho announced his country’s readiness for both dialogue and confrontation with the US, warning Washington that continuing unilateral sanctions against Pyongyang will be a" miscalculation."
