A gunman broadcast live footage on Facebook of the attack on one mosque in the city of Christchurch, mirroring the carnage played out in video games, after publishing a "manifesto" in which he denounced immigrants, calling them "invaders".

Facebook and other social media platforms took several hours to start blocking and are under fire from critics that argue they have great responsibility on limiting hate speech and terrorist content expansion over their platforms. But can they do this while respecting people’s right to privacy and freedom of expression?
