The most crushing sanctions, or a crushing US failure?

Tehran has vowed to skirt US sanctions and keep exporting oil. In his recent speech, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, "I announce that we will proudly bypass your illegal, unjust sanctions because it's against international regulations."

The renewed sanctions that went into effect on Monday follow Trump's controversial withdrawal in May from the multi-national nuclear deal with Tehran.

While Washington tries to cut Iran's oil exports to zero, it has become clear that this is no more than a pipe dream as there is no real replacement for Iran's 2.5 million barrels per day in oil exports.
