The United States and Israel are opposing to the delivery of Russian-made S-300 missile defense system to Syria, because their foreign policy is based on double standard and hypocrisy, says an academic.

“It is the classic double standard. It is the classic hypocrisy that we see coming from the United States and from Israel and often times from their European vassals – the UK, France and the Germans,” David Yaghoubian, professor of history at the CSU San Bernardino University, told Press TV on Saturday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says his country has already started delivering the S-300 surface-to-air missile defense system to Syria as part of its efforts to ensure the safety of Russian forces in the Arab country.

The US and Israel are afraid that this Russian move would prevent their jet fighters from launching aggression against targets in the Syrian territory once the air defense system is installed.

“Now, for once the Syrian government is going to have the potential to effectively protect itself from Israeli F-16s,” Yaghoubian said.
