Iraq Protests: Legacy of The US War’s Damage to Iraq

This program is about Iraq Protests: Legacy of The US War’s Damage to Iraq. Violent protests began in the oil-rich southern city of Basra. Security reinforcement has already been dispatched to Basra, where demonstrators gathered for the seventh consecutive day. Baghdad is keen to protect the province's oil fields, vital to the country's economic growth. However tensions have steadily mounted to other southern provinces. However, this year’s protests have made global headlines. In rare scenes crowds have attacked security forces and state institutions. The clashes have left at least 16 people dead. Protesters say one of the causes of the demonstrations is unemployment levels. Despite being oil rich, foreign companies control the oil here, hiring mainly foreign workers.
