The United States seeks to wage economic and psychological warfare against Iran in an attempt to “demoralize” the Iranian public and to “create division” inside the country, says an academic.

“I think it is becoming quite clear that the United States is waging economic war against Iran but what some of your viewers may not know is that there is a campaign going on … to create an atmosphere of fear and so with putting these two together - economic warfare along with psychological warfare - the Americans hope to demoralize Iranian public and to create division inside the country in order to force Iran to bow down to the United States,” Mohammad Marandi, a lecturer at University of Tehran, told Press TV in an interview on Saturday.

“So we do have this very huge campaign on the one hand where they are demonizing Iran, where they are trying to create division in Iran, they are committing campaigns against the country and working to weaken the economy … but it does not seem so far it has had any major effect,” he added.
