Iran’s Forouzandeh receives silver in intl. Zhaxylyk Ushkempirov wrestling tournament

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Hassan Forouzandeh has put in outstanding grappling skills and physical might at the international Zhaxylyk Ushkempirov tournament in Kazakhstan, and collected a silver medal.

On Sunday and the final day of the competitions in the western Kazakh city of Aktau, Forouzandeh lost 2-4 to an opponent from the host nation in the last encounter of men’s 87-kilogram weight category and claimed the second spot.

The Iranian sportsman, who had been the first round off, routed his Kazakh rival in the second, before overcoming another wrestler from Kazakhstan 8-1 and winning his ticket for the final bout.

Earlier in the tournament, Hamidreza Badkan could not overcome his Kazakh opponent in the final challenge of the 97-kilogram weight class, and conceded a 4-5 defeat following a close contest.

The international Zhaxylyk Ushkempirov tournament began in the western Kazakh city of Aktau on May 4, and wrapped up on May 6, 2018.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation (IRIWF) had dispatched six wrestlers to the sporting event.

Pouya Dadmarz, Mehdi Mohsennejad, Mohammadreza Mokhtari, Mohammadreza Rostami, Hassan Forouzandeh and Hamidreza Badkan represented Iran in the 55-kilogram, 60-kilogram, 67-kilogram, 72-kilogram, 87-kilogram and 97-kilogram weight classes respectively.

They were under the tutelage of Rouhollah Delangiz as the coach.
