US education struggles

For teachers in several US states, it’s time for action. They are walking out of classrooms to voice their frustration with a system that they firmly believe has long failed. Their problems are many, but some of them are making life unbearable. Educators in states including Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky, Oklahoma and West Virginia have been mobilizing to demand better pay and benefits. Besides pay and benefits, teachers have been complaining about poor infrastructure.

Bahrain repression

The crackdown on opponents of the Bahraini government continues in the Persian Gulf kingdom. A court in Bahrain has revoked the citizenship of 2 more dissidents for anti-regime political activities. This is the second time in a week Bahrain issues strict verdicts against political activists. The crackdown has intensified as Bahrain bars a European parliamentary delegation from visiting the country. The uprising in Bahrain began in mid February 2011. Since then, many people have been killed while thousands have been jailed.
