Female candidate injured as bomb hits party HQ in Iraq
A bomber has detonated his explosives near a political party’s headquarters in the central Iraqi city of Hit, killing three people.
Five others, including a female candidate for Iraq's upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May 2018, were injured in the incident, which targeted the al-Hall party’s central building in the city, said Raq Naim al-Goud, representative of the province’s Security Committee.
Iraq’s al-Sumariah news network said another attacker tried to stage a simultaneous strike against the building, but was gunned down by security forces before setting off his charge.
Later, a security source in the province said another bomber had stricken the same building, injuring six soldiers, who were patrolling the area.
The Army liberated Hit in April 2016 after heavy clashes with the Takfiri terror group of Daesh. The city is located 70 kilometers (43 miles) from Anbar Province’s capital Ramadi.
The country rid itself of Daesh’s scourge late last November, three years after the outfit assaulted the Arab country and seized large swathes of territory in blistering attacks.
The group’s remnants, though, keep staging sporadic attacks across Iraq.
